If you love to play Spades but are tired of losing your incredible lead on the last hand, you have got to buy the book:
“How NOT to Lose At Spades”
by author John Galt Strichman
After once again being dumb founded when one of my regular partners and I had once again lost on the last hand on what should have been a sure win in Internet Spades, my Spades Frustrations were elevated and I needed help figuring out why playing our hands and avoiding bags as much as possible were costing us so many last minute wins. So, being the Geek that I am, it was time to search, again, for Spades Help and I really hoped that I would find something different from the previously found online sites and videos that I had already used over and over. So, Maggie, The Frustrated Spades Loving Geek, went hunting for some fresh online help for Spades Tricks and Strategies, again.
Luckily, I finally tripped across a book actually written for SPADES Players and not a book written for Bridge Players that I could try and extrapolate into Spades Tricks and Strategies. Have found a great deal of info in the Bridge world that has helped my game but not enough. From my recent games, after I finally mastered (so I thought) how to “Bid my hand” turns out my team was still getting Bagged or Set…no matter how often I would “Bid My Hand!”
The more I played and observed games, the better I got. However, as I began to improve just could never get ranked to the next level or if I did, would get knocked back down very quickly. There are still many players much more skilled than I am in the Spades World of Spades Tricks and Strategies and they obviously have learned to master more Spades’ Skills than I have. My favorite partners and I are tired of being in total shock at the last minute of the last hand just to find another one of our sure wins has become a sure loss by just a trick or two or even worse by just a bag or two!
Even worse than losing with my favorite partners is losing while playing with partners I don’t really know and who unfortunately are not as understanding or as graceful as my regular partners with extra Bags and / or a Spades loss.
Unfortunately, if they have higher rankings than mine, they very often automatically assume they are better players than I am and often feel the need to berate me for playing what I would think was the proper play of my cards. Then there are those who claim to have played Spades for 40 years, so they often think and say that they are better than I am and feel the need to verbally abuse me for our loss when in reality they were making as many mistakes or more than I have.
Sadly, not everyone is nice and polite in the Internet Spades World and no matter how much you try and ignore the Tongue Lashings flying out during the games, no one likes to be called nasty four letter words, over and over. Sometimes it is the other teams bantering in a nasty tongue but sometimes it is another poor innocent who is hooked up with an abusive player and it hurts almost as much to watch the abuse as it is to get it. I will often ask the abusive partner the question “Why are you so mean to the one person in this game who can influence the outcome of your game as as much if not more than you can?” Translated: “If you are so smart, why are you acting so dumb?”
When these bullies have abused their partners to the point that they are too rattled to play or worse are too mad to even possibly let Big Bully get a win, the process I have Tagged “Revenge Spades” often goes into play and that includes the 13 bids by one player or the No Way Nil for the heck of it. For those of us who have a Spades addiction, but aren’t the best player at the table and are tired of being on the receiving end of the Bully abuse, having more Spades skills should help to curtail some of these bad situations because we will at least be more confident in our games, know it is the other guy who may be the one making the mistakes and have less of the last minute surprise losses.
So, back to my original story, after that last totally shocking loss,I knew that if I wanted to continue playing Internet Spades, and try and keep my sanity, and not feel like I was constantly making mistakes with my game and partners and actually truly enjoy playing the game and trusting my abilities, it was time to do something different and that enough was enough was enough….
It was time to either 1) Accept the constant defeat and give it up and just walk away from Internet Spades forever OR 2) It was time for me to give up on finding the solutions to my gaming issues in the sea of free Internet tips and tricks and invest in Spades Knowledge.
Since this time my search actually ended up with my best ever results because what I found, for the first time, was a Book about Spades written by a Top Spades Player to teach others how to be Better Spades Players. It didn’t take long for me to know that option number, make an affordable investment to gain true Spades playing, tips, tricks, strategies and knowledge to improve my Internet Spades playing skills and ultimately Spades Playing Score and Ranking, was the route I was probably going to go.

The following info about John Gait Strichman has been taken directly from his website: www.SpadesBook.com
“To write a successful instructional book on cards, or any subject for that matter, requires numerous skills and abilities. Having expert knowledge of the subject matter is not enough. Among other abilities, you must know how to write and how to teach. Expertise in these areas is, in fact, what often separates the average “How To” book from the classic instructional work. John Galt Strichman is one of the most highly regarded Spades players on the Internet, where he has won well over 200 tournaments, been ranked number 1 in various leagues and ladders, and earned a reputation for having a true strategic mastery of the game. Truthfully, however, most card game authors know their games inside and out.John’s strengths include having had extensive experience both writing and teaching. He has taught very technical subjects to very non-technical audiences at the corporate level, and spent many years preparing articles and reports for trade journals, conferences, and media distribution.
Most important, he has learned that humor and common sense are far better teachers than statistics and equations, and his ability to weave these two ingredients into a complex, yet highly structured tapestry of teaching is incomparable.
Mr. Strichman is a regular contributor of feature articles for Joe Andrews’ Spades column of the month, and has written his own column for the biggest Spades club at the one of the best Internet gaming sites. He is a sought after lecturer and teacher, and has conducted the Spades training classes at the MSN Gaming Zone exploration fairs.
John also is the resident Spades consultant at Dolphin Cove Games of Skill, and hosts a Spades forum at that gaming site.”
